NAvigate U
Navigate U is our new student success framework focused on holistic student development, success, and wellbeing. It integrates various university departments to ensure coherence and synergy in
student support services and articulates a shared responsibility for ensuring an Exceptional Educational Experience for every student. The Navigate U project and the underlying data and software infrastructure can transform how we understand, strategize, and implement intervention efforts across campus to ensure an exceptional educational experience for every undergraduate student. Through the careful, coordinated, and strategic Navigate U project, we will bring previously disparate and competing efforts together to achieve the goal of an exceptional educational experience for all undergraduate students. As a result, we will make significant headway in addressing issues such as student retention, time to graduation, student belongingness, equity gaps in the curriculum and courses, and targeted faculty development.
The Navigate U project is a collaboration among the Office of the President, Academic Affairs, individual Colleges and Departments, Student Affairs, and the Health Sciences. The strategy approach is based on the shared responsibility for eight pillars that guide the project work: Awareness and Engagement, Student Transitions, Proactive Academic Advising, Academic Planning and Curriculum Systems, Financial Structures, First Experiences and Experiential Learning, Student Pathways and Career Success, and Academic and Well-Being Support. As part of the Navigate U approach, Activate Projects are propelling progress on key initiatives to enhance student success and streamline academic processes. |

- Adopting an enterprise-wide advising platform transformed advising at the U by providing a holistic record of the student experience, creating a consistent experience for students, and collecting institution-wide analytics.
- After the initial rush of implementation, the focus shifted to optimization and the intentional expansion of usage to units beyond academic advising.
- Coordination across the breadth and depth of the organizational structure is essential to the success of the project.
- With an institution as large as the University of Utah, it is important to establish standards and consistent practices, while also allowing units flexibility when appropriate.
