Bringing Improved Learner Readiness to the Palm of Your Hand
Even the best instruction can’t have an impact if the learner isn’t ready to learn. Bringing Improved Learner Readiness to the Palm of Your Hand proposes the development of an app-based tool to help learners develop agency and grow across five broad elements: mental wellness, cognition and mindset, competence, physiological wellbeing, and environment. This project proposes to develop actionable tools for learners to use in developing their own “readiness to learn” across those five broad elements as broken down above.
In service of student agency, the app would allow students to focus in personalized fashion on aspects of learner readiness of their own choosing. For instance, some students might focus on aspects of cognition and mindset while others pursue physiological wellbeing. In addition to guiding students toward practicing healthy habits, the app would include connection points to support and wellbeing resources on campus. A key consideration in the development of the proposed app is user privacy. In its prototype form, the app will not send any personally identifiable information off-app; the only data that might be collected would relate to the number of downloads and amount of usage. Future versions of the app may explore social features.
